Tips
- •Be explicit about the formulas you want. "Add a total row" is vague — "Add a SUM formula in row 50 that totals column C" gets better results.
- •If you need the same report every month, save the prompt. Next time you just swap in the new data file.
- •Ask the AI to add conditional formatting (color-coding) for quick visual scanning — e.g., "highlight any cell in column D over $1,000 in red."
Watch out
- •Always spot-check formulas in AI-generated spreadsheets before sharing them. A wrong SUM range or misplaced formula can produce convincing but incorrect numbers.
- •Be careful uploading financial data to cloud-based AI tools. Desktop agents like Cowork process locally, but browser-based tools send your data to their servers.
- •AI-generated charts are a starting point. For client-facing presentations, you'll usually want to refine labels, colors, and formatting manually.
